Milwaukee is expanding the M18 battery lineup with two new M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 battery options, along with the upcoming M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE HD15 Battery Pack.
For M18 users, the biggest news is the updated XC5.0 platform. Milwaukee is keeping the familiar 5.0Ah size while increasing power, improving durability, upgrading the fuel gauge, and offering a separate Resistant version for jobsites where batteries are regularly exposed to oils, greases, and solvents.

The new batteries include the M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 Battery Pack, model (48-11-1855), priced at $169, and the M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 Resistant Battery Pack, model (48-11-1855R), priced at $209.
Both XC5.0 batteries are available now for pre-sale at Ohio Power Tool.
M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 Battery Pack (48-11-1855)
The new Milwaukee M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 Battery Pack (48-11-1855) is designed to give M18 users more power without giving up the familiar 5.0Ah capacity.
Milwaukee says the new battery delivers 50% more power than the REDLITHIUM XC5.0, giving it PWR Level 3 performance on the M18 REDLITHIUM Power scale while still delivering 5 amp hours of runtime.

That combination gives users a balance between power, runtime, and battery size instead of requiring a much larger pack every time more performance is needed.
The battery is also fully compatible with the Milwaukee M18 system, which includes more than 300 tools and solutions.
50% More Power Than the REDLITHIUM XC5.0
One of the biggest upgrades is the jump in available power.
Milwaukee states that the M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 provides 50% more power compared with the REDLITHIUM XC5.0.

It sits at PWR Level 3 on Milwaukee’s M18 REDLITHIUM Power scale, while maintaining its 5.0Ah runtime.
For anyone already using M18 cordless tools, that means the new XC5.0 can be installed directly onto compatible tools as an immediate battery upgrade without moving to a different battery platform.
Redesigned Battery Construction for Jobsite Durability
Milwaukee also redesigned the construction of the new HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 battery.

The pack is built with increased durability to provide longer-lasting performance and protection in jobsite conditions.
The construction is designed to route water away from the battery’s electronics and out of the pack. It also helps minimize heat to extend battery runtime and battery life.
Milwaukee says the new design also helps prevent battery failures caused by vibration and drops.
Together, those changes are intended to better protect the battery against some of the conditions cordless batteries regularly encounter on jobsites, including water, heat, vibration, and impacts.
REDLINK Intelligence
The M18 HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 also includes Milwaukee’s REDLINK Intelligence.
The battery circuitry uses total system communication between the tool, battery, and charger to optimize performance while also providing overload protection.
This system is designed to help the battery and tool work together instead of treating the battery as a completely separate part of the system.
Upgraded Fuel Gauge and Button
Milwaukee made a smaller but useful change to the fuel gauge as well.
The M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 features an upgraded fuel gauge and button designed to provide an improved feel and easier access.

The goal is simple: make it quicker and easier to check the remaining battery charge while you’re working.
M18 HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 Charging Times
Milwaukee has also provided charging times for the new 48-11-1855 battery.
With a Super Charger, the battery can charge in approximately 39 minutes.
Using a Rapid Charger, charging takes approximately 60 minutes.
With a standard charger, the battery can charge in approximately 105 minutes.
That gives M18 users several charging options depending on the charger already being used on the jobsite or in the shop.
Built for Cold Weather Performance
Cold temperatures can be tough on cordless batteries, especially for crews working outside during the winter.

Milwaukee says the new M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 is designed to maintain reliable power in temperatures as low as 0°F, or -18°C.
That gives users another option for M18 tools being used in colder jobsite conditions.
M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 Resistant Battery Pack
(48-11-1855R)
Milwaukee is also introducing the M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 Resistant Battery Pack, model (48-11-1855R).
Performance-wise, this battery shares the major features of the standard 48-11-1855.

It delivers 50% more power than the REDLITHIUM XC5.0, provides 5.0Ah of runtime, and carries the same PWR Level 3 performance rating on Milwaukee’s M18 REDLITHIUM Power scale.
It also includes REDLINK Intelligence, the redesigned durable pack construction, and the upgraded fuel gauge and button.
Like the standard version, it is fully compatible with the M18 system and its 300-plus tools and solutions.
The big difference is the housing.
What’s Different About the M18 XC5.0 Resistant Battery?
The 48-11-1855R uses a Resistant housing designed to provide increased protection against exposure to common oils, greases, and solvents.

That added protection makes the Resistant version especially useful on demanding jobsites where batteries may regularly come into contact with those substances.
You still get the same 5.0Ah capacity and 50% increase in power compared with the REDLITHIUM XC5.0, but with additional protection built into the battery housing.
For users working around equipment, tools, and environments where oil, grease, or solvents are common, the Resistant model gives them another option within the same M18 battery platform.
Standard XC5.0 vs. Resistant XC5.0
The two new batteries are very similar internally. Both provide:
-5.0Ah of runtime
-50% more power versus the REDLITHIUM XC5.0
-PWR Level 3 performance
-REDLINK Intelligence
-An upgraded fuel gauge and button
-Redesigned battery construction
-Increased protection against water, heat, vibration, and drops
-Compatibility with more than 300 M18 tools and solutions

The major difference is that the 48-11-1855R Resistant Battery adds a housing designed for increased protection against common oils, greases, and solvents.
The standard M18 HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 Battery Pack 48-11-1855 is priced at $169.
The M18 HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 Resistant Battery Pack 48-11-1855R is priced at $209.
Both are currently available for pre-sale at Ohio Power Tool.
M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE HD15 Battery Pack (48-11-1819)
The new XC5.0 batteries aren’t the only additions coming to Milwaukee’s M18 battery lineup.
Milwaukee is also introducing the M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE HD15 Battery Pack, model 48-11-1819.
The FORGE HD15 is expected to become available for pre-sale in December 2026.
At this point, that is the information currently provided for the new HD15 battery, so we’ll have to wait for additional details on specifications and performance.
For anyone already invested in the M18 system, the new HIGH OUTPUT XC5.0 batteries offer an interesting upgrade.
The standard 48-11-1855 keeps the familiar 5.0Ah capacity while Milwaukee claims 50% more power than the REDLITHIUM XC5.0, along with redesigned construction, REDLINK Intelligence, improved cold-weather performance, and an upgraded fuel gauge.
The 48-11-1855R takes those same features and adds a Resistant housing for increased protection against oils, greases, and solvents.
Which one makes the most sense really comes down to where and how the battery is going to be used. If exposure to those substances isn’t a concern, the standard XC5.0 gives you the updated performance and construction. If batteries regularly end up around oil, grease, or solvents, the Resistant version adds another layer of protection.
And for anyone looking for something considerably larger, the upcoming M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE HD15 gives Milwaukee users another battery release to watch heading into the end of 2026.
