Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

If you already use Milwaukee M18 batteries, there’s a good chance you’ve found yourself using a TOP-OFF at some point to charge a phone, run a laptop, or get a little portable AC power where there isn’t an outlet nearby.
Now Milwaukee is taking that idea quite a bit further.

The new Milwaukee M18 TOP-OFF 350W Power Supply & Charger with PACKOUT Compatibility (2856-20) is basically a bigger, smarter version of the TOP-OFF concept. It gives you 350 watts of portable power, lets you run or charge up to four devices at once, works with one or two M18 batteries, charges M18 batteries, and even locks directly into your PACKOUT stack.
For anyone who already lives in the M18 and PACKOUT systems, this one makes a lot of sense.
What Is the Milwaukee M18 TOP-OFF 350W?
The new Milwaukee M18 TOP-OFF 350W (2856-20) turns your M18 batteries into a compact portable power station.

You get two 120V AC outlets, one 100W USB-C PD port, and one 15W USB-C port, so you can power or charge four different devices at the same time.
Think laptop, fan, phone, and headlamp all running from the same setup.
That’s useful on the jobsite, but it also gives this thing a lot of versatility outside of work. Camping, tailgating, working out of a truck, or just needing backup power somewhere without easy access to an outlet are all situations where the TOP-OFF could come in handy.
350 Watts of Portable Power
The new TOP-OFF delivers up to 350 watts, which gives you a lot more room to work with than a basic portable charger.
Milwaukee also built it with a pure sine wave inverter, which is designed to provide cleaner, more consistent power for sensitive electronics.
That makes it a better fit for things like laptops, chargers, monitors, and other electronics you may not want hooked up to rough or inconsistent power.

Of course, you’ll still want to make sure whatever you plug in stays under that 350-watt limit.
One Battery Works, Two Gives You More Runtime
You only need one M18 battery to use the Milwaukee M18 TOP-OFF 350W (2856-20).

But if you add a second battery, Milwaukee says you can get up to 2X the runtime.
That’s where this starts getting really useful.
If you’re running a fan all day, keeping laptops charged, or using it for a longer camping setup, being able to throw a second M18 battery on there means you don’t have to keep stopping to swap packs.
And Milwaukee made the battery setup even smarter with hot swapping.
Hot-Swap Batteries Without Cutting Power
This may be one of the best features on the new TOP-OFF.

The display shows you which battery is currently being used. If you need the other battery for a tool, you can pull it off without shutting down whatever is plugged into the TOP-OFF.
No fan stopping. No laptop suddenly losing power. No interruption.
That’s especially useful if you’re sharing the same M18 batteries between your tools and your power setup throughout the day.
Instead of dedicating two batteries to the TOP-OFF and leaving them there, you have a lot more flexibility.
You Can Actually See How Much Power You’re Using
Another really useful upgrade is the real-time power display.
We’ve all done it with portable power: plug one thing in, then another, then another, and eventually start wondering if you’re pushing your luck.
The Milwaukee M18 TOP-OFF 350W (2856-20) takes some of that guessing out of it.
As you add devices or increase the power draw, the display shows you the changing load in real time. It also shows your battery charge level and tells you which battery is currently discharging.

It’s not the flashiest feature, but it’s probably one you’ll appreciate pretty quickly once you start using it.
It’s Also an M18 Battery Charger
Here’s where the Milwaukee M18 TOP-OFF 350W (2856-20) starts feeling more like an all-in-one solution.
It doesn’t just use M18 batteries for power. It can also charge them.

Using the included 65W wall adapter and USB-C cable, the TOP-OFF can sequentially charge your M18 batteries through the 100W bi-directional USB-C port.
So instead of bringing a separate inverter and a separate M18 charger, this can potentially cover both jobs.
That could be especially helpful for service techs or anyone trying to keep their setup simple when moving from job to job.
And Yes, It Works with PACKOUT
Milwaukee also added PACKOUT compatibility, which honestly feels like an obvious move for something like this.

The Milwaukee M18 TOP-OFF 350W (2856-20) can lock directly into your PACKOUT stack, so you can keep your portable power right alongside your tools and storage instead of carrying another loose box around the jobsite.
There’s also a built-in carrying handle if you want to grab it on its own.
If you already move most of your gear with PACKOUT, this makes the TOP-OFF a lot easier to work into your normal setup.
How Does It Fit Into the Rest of the Milwaukee TOP-OFF Lineup?
The new 350W model isn’t Milwaukee’s only TOP-OFF option, and that’s important because not everyone needs the same amount of power.
Milwaukee already has smaller TOP-OFF options built for users who want a more compact way to get AC and USB power from an M18 battery. Those models still make a lot of sense if your main goal is charging a laptop, phone, tablet, or other smaller electronics without carrying a larger power setup.

The new Milwaukee M18 TOP-OFF 350W (2856-20) is the step up for users who want more outlets, more runtime, dual-battery support, PACKOUT compatibility, M18 charging, and more control over what they’re powering.
So before automatically jumping to the biggest model, it’s worth looking at the full lineup and figuring out which TOP-OFF actually fits the way you work.

Is This Replacing the Original TOP-OFF?
Not necessarily. The smaller TOP-OFF still has a big advantage: it’s compact.
If all you need is something small to charge a phone, laptop, or other device every once in a while, the original style still makes plenty of sense.

The new Milwaukee M18 TOP-OFF 350W (2856-20) is more for people who want a lot more capability.

You’re getting 350W of power, four-device support, two AC outlets, two USB-C ports, dual M18 battery support, hot swapping, real-time load monitoring, battery charging, and PACKOUT compatibility.
So, it’s less of a replacement and more of a step up for users who need more portable power.

The original TOP-OFF was useful because it was simple: grab an M18 battery and suddenly you have portable AC and USB power.
The new M18 TOP-OFF 350W (2856-20) keeps that idea but adds a lot of things people have probably wished the original could do.
More power, more ports, two-battery runtime, hot swapping, real-time load monitoring, M18 charging, and PACKOUT compatibility all make this feel less like a small accessory and more like a true portable power setup.
