Recently, the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) announced an important update to the A10.50-2024 standard, focusing on Heat Stress Management. This significant amendment, known as the Provision of Electrolyte Replenishment Beverage, is set to improve how companies safeguard their employees in environments prone to heat-related risks.
Effective February 15, 2024, the A10.50-2024 standard mandates that when employees engage in strenuous activities for more than two hours, they must have access to electrolyte replenishment beverages. These beverages, commercially available and provided free of charge, are crucial in combating dehydration and mitigating the adverse effects of heat stress. Notably, the standard advises against caffeinated and high-sugar electrolyte beverages, recognizing their potential to exacerbate dehydration.
