SawStop is taking the safety technology that changed expectations for table saws and bringing it to an entirely new category. Meet the SawStop 14“-Inch“ Professional Bandsaw, a machine designed from the ground up for serious woodworkers who want cutting capacity, precision, thoughtful shop-friendly features, and SawStop’s signature approach to active safety.
Expected to arrive in mid 2027, the new Professional Bandsaw represents an important expansion for SawStop. This isn’t simply another 14″ bandsaw with the SawStop name on it. The company developed the machine around the needs of woodworkers, including a rigid steel frame, 14 inches of resaw capacity, two motor options, a versatile fence, improved dust collection, easy blade adjustments, and, most importantly, Sensic Active Safety technology.
SawStop Brings Sensic Active Safety to the Bandsaw
The biggest story behind the SawStop Professional Bandsaw is safety.
SawStop built its reputation around active safety technology for table saws, but a bandsaw presents a completely different mechanical challenge. Rather than simply adapting an existing system, SawStop engineered its Sensic Active Safety system specifically for the bandsaw.
During operation, the system monitors for contact between the blade and skin. If contact is detected, the safety system activates and stops the blade in milliseconds, helping reduce the risk of a serious blade contact injury. SawStop also states that the system can react to conductive materials, which is important to understand when working with wet, green, pressure-treated, or otherwise conductive materials.
That distinction matters because a bandsaw blade operates very differently from a table saw blade. The Professional Bandsaw uses its own brake cartridge, although it relies on the same Sensic Active Safety approach to detect contact and react rapidly.
For woodworkers already familiar with SawStop table saws, this brings a familiar idea to a machine where hands frequently work close to a continuously moving blade.
Built for Serious Resawing
Safety may grab the attention, but SawStop clearly didn’t forget what woodworkers expect from a professional bandsaw.
One of the biggest specifications is its 14″ vertical resaw capacity. SawStop says this is best in class among bandsaws using 14″ wheels. That gives woodworkers room to tackle thick hardwood, resaw boards into thinner stock, work with larger pieces, and take on demanding furniture and woodworking projects.
The machine is built around a reinforced steel frame designed to remain rigid under blade tension. SawStop lists the assembled machine at approximately 368 pounds, helping provide the stable foundation needed when accuracy and consistent cuts matter.
For anyone who regularly resaws material, that combination of capacity, rigidity, and control is one of the biggest reasons to pay attention to this machine.
Choose Between 1.75 HP and 3 HP
Different shops have different electrical setups and different expectations for their equipment, so SawStop plans to offer the Professional Bandsaw with two motor configurations:
1.75 HP for shops looking for a 120V option, or 3 HP for users who have access to 230V power and want additional muscle for demanding work.
Having both options should make the bandsaw more practical for everyone from dedicated home woodworking shops to professional environments where heavier stock and frequent resawing are part of the daily workload.
Large Cast-Iron Work Surface
A capable bandsaw needs a table that gives you enough room to properly support your work.
The SawStop Professional Bandsaw uses a 16.9“ by 21.8“ cast iron table, creating a solid and stable surface for controlling material through the cut. The table tilts up to 45 degrees to the right and 9 degrees to the left, expanding the types of angled cuts that can be performed on the machine.
SawStop has also designed the table area with blade changes in mind. The removable insert plate and overall machine layout make accessing and changing the blade more straightforward, reducing some of the frustration that can come with switching bandsaw blades.
An optional table extension will add another 7.9″ of width to the right side for users who want additional workpiece support.
A Fence Designed for More Than One Type of Cut
SawStop has also put considerable thought into the fence system.
The included fence can be configured in a high position for resawing or a low position for smaller workpieces. Users can position it on either side of the blade and adjust its location depending on the application.
More importantly for bandsaw users, the system includes adjustment for blade drift compensation. Instead of fighting a blade that naturally wants to track slightly away from a perfectly straight line, the fence can be adjusted to account for that behavior.
It’s the kind of feature that may not sound as exciting as a new safety system or a big motor, but it can make a major difference when you’re actually using the saw.
Tool-Free Blade Guide Adjustments
Anyone who changes bandsaw blades regularly knows that the blade itself is only part of the setup.
After changing blade widths or preparing the saw for a different application, the guides have to be properly positioned. SawStop uses tool-free ball bearing blade guides and thrust bearings, allowing woodworkers to make precise adjustments without constantly reaching for another tool.
Combined with easier blade access, this should make it quicker to move between different blade setups instead of avoiding a blade change simply because the process is a hassle.
Built-In Lighting Where You Actually Need It
Good visibility makes accurate work easier.
SawStop integrates task lighting directly above the upper blade guides to illuminate the cutting area while minimizing shadows across the cutline.
For detailed cuts or shops where overhead lighting isn’t always positioned exactly where you need it, having lighting built into the machine is a small feature that could quickly become something you appreciate every time you turn the saw on.
Electronic Braking Stops the Blade in Two Seconds
The Sensic system isn’t the only braking technology built into this bandsaw.
During normal operation, pressing the start/stop paddle activates an automatic electronic brake that brings the blade to a stop within two seconds.
That means less time standing around waiting for a long bandsaw blade to coast to a stop after finishing a cut.
It is important to distinguish this feature from the Sensic Active Safety system. The electronic brake handles normal shutdown, while Sensic is the active safety technology designed to react when contact is detected.
Dust Collection Designed Around the Source
Bandsaws can produce plenty of fine dust, especially during long resaw cuts, so SawStop has built dust collection directly into the machine.
The Professional Bandsaw uses two 4“ dust ports located below the table, including focused dust collection immediately beneath the table surface. SawStop recommends a minimum dust-collection airflow of 300 CFM.
Capturing dust closer to where it is being generated can help keep the cabinet cleaner and reduce the amount of airborne dust making its way around the shop.
Of course, dust collection should still be combined with appropriate personal protective equipment and good shop dust-control practices.
Optional Accessories
SawStop has also announced accessories that can help adapt the Professional Bandsaw to different shop layouts.
The Table Extension adds nearly 8 inches of additional space to the right side of the cast-iron table, giving larger material more support.
A Mobile Base will also be available for shops where floor space is at a premium or where equipment needs to move depending on the project.
For smaller woodworking shops in particular, being able to move a nearly 370-pound machine without wrestling it across the floor could make the mobile base an accessory worth considering.
What About Wet or Green Wood?
Because Sensic Active Safety detects conductivity, woodworkers need to understand how certain materials interact with the system.
SawStop says wet or green wood may be cut with the safety system active depending on its moisture content, but recommends testing the material using Bypass Mode first. Potentially conductive materials and pressure-treated wood should also be cut in Bypass Mode to reduce the chance of an unintended activation.
That will be an important operating consideration for anyone regularly cutting green lumber or pressure-treated material.
When Will the SawStop Professional Bandsaw Be Available?
The SawStop 14-Inch Professional Bandsaw is currently expected to reach stores in mid-2027, with pricing to be announced closer to the preorder period as the official launch gets closer.
That means we still have some time before this machine reaches woodworking shops, but there’s already plenty here to make the Professional Bandsaw one of SawStop’s most interesting launches in years.

The new 14″ Professional Bandsaw is more than a new tool for SawStop. It arrives at the same time the company is introducing a new brand identity and making it clear that it is ready to grow beyond the table saw.
