You may want to grab a seat for this one; are you sitting? Good, because this is some riveting stuff. No, literally; we’re talking about riveting, which all you metalworkers and construction guys, gals, and non-binary pals know all about. The average layperson may think that the only way to join two pieces of metal together is to weld them, and while welding may create an inescapably secure bond between two larger pieces of tough, dense metal, riveting can get you a quick and reliable connection in smaller pieces of material. Pneumatic rivet guns are always a good option, but often require bulky hoses and even multiple different machines to deal with different sized rivets, overtaking the rest of your equipment with nothing but sheer bulk.
DeWalt, like much of the rest of us, were tired of the hassle of it all, and have introduced two brand new rivet guns powered by their incredible 20V family of batteries in 3/16” (DCF403) and 1/4” (DCF414) sizes for fastening aluminum, steel, or stainless steel blind rivets, with up to 2100 pounds force in the DCF403 and a whopping 4500 pounds force in the DCF414. Both tools were designed specifically to maximize productivity and efficiency on the jobsite, with a lightweight but sturdy design to withstand rough jobsite environments.
Both of DeWalt‘s new tools are compatible with multiple rivet sizes, from 3/32”, 1/8”, 5/32”, and 3/16”, with the DCF414 also being able to tackle 1/4” size rivets as well, and feature on-board storage for the nose pieces as well as a mandrel collector to catch rivets after each pop. The DeWalt 20V battery inclusivity provides enough power for the DCF403 to pop up to 800 3/16” stainless steel rivets per charge with it’s 0.98” stroke length, and the DCF414 to burn through 300 1/4” stainless steel rivets per charge with it’s 1.18” stroke length, each on a DCB203 battery! With front-facing LED work lights to help illuminate the work space for an extra boost in efficiency, the DeWalt XR Rivet Guns should find their way into many a tool bag when they are released later on this year.
