Milwaukee is pushing its heavy-duty impact lineup even further with a new generation of M18 FUEL 3/4-inch High Torque Impact Wrenches (2964-20), and these are clearly aimed at users who are ready to get the air hose out of the way.
The new lineup includes the standard M18 FUEL 3/4″ High Torque Impact Wrench with ONE-KEY (2964-20) kit version (2964-22) and the M18 FUEL 3/4″ Extended Anvil High Torque Impact Wrench with ONE-KEY (2969-20) kit version (2969-22).
Both impact wrenches deliver up to 2,000 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque and 1,800 ft lbs of Fastening Torque, but Milwaukee isn’t just chasing a bigger torque number here. These tools are also designed around faster removal speeds, better application control, strong battery performance, and features aimed specifically at heavy equipment, automotive, fleet, and commercial tire service.
If you’ve been waiting for a Milwaukee 3/4-inch cordless impact that can seriously go after pneumatic tools, this is the lineup to watch.
Milwaukee Is Going After Pneumatic 3/4-Inch Impacts
For a high-torque impact wrench, power is obviously a big part of the conversation. Both new Milwaukee models use a POWERSTATE Brushless Motor to deliver up to 2,000 foot-pounds of nut-busting torque and 1,800 foot-pounds of fastening torque.
That’s enough output for the large fasteners these tools are built around, but Milwaukee is putting just as much emphasis on speed.
Milwaukee says the new M18 FUEL 3/4″ High Torque Impact Wrench (2964-20) delivers removal speeds up to 40% faster than cordless and pneumatic competition. The extended-anvil model is also rated for speeds up to 40% faster than the competition.
That combination of torque and speed is important because replacing a pneumatic impact isn’t just about whether a cordless tool can eventually break a fastener free. It needs to keep the work moving without making users feel like they’re sacrificing productivity to ditch the compressor.
That’s exactly what Milwaukee is trying to address with this generation.
M18 FUEL 3/4″ High Torque Impact Wrench with ONE-KEY
(2964-20)
The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 3/4″ High Torque Impact Wrench with ONE-KEY (2964-20) is the standard-anvil option and probably the most versatile choice in the new lineup.
It’s designed for demanding fastening and removal work in repair shops, industrial environments, heavy equipment maintenance, fleet service, and jobsites where dragging around a compressor and air line isn’t ideal.
One of the bigger improvements Milwaukee is highlighting is removal speed. The 2964-20 is designed to remove fasteners up to 40% faster than cordless and pneumatic competition, helping reduce the amount of time spent waiting on large fasteners to back out.
Runtime is equally important at this power level.
When paired with an M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE XC8.0 battery, Milwaukee says the impact can install up to 120 1-1/4-inch bolts on a single battery.
For crews using these tools throughout an entire shift, that’s a much more useful performance metric than torque alone.
4-Mode CUSTOM DRIVE CONTROL and ONE-KEY
The 2964-20 also features 4-Mode CUSTOM DRIVE CONTROL, giving users more control over the tool’s speed and power depending on the application.
Because the impact is ONE-KEY enabled, users can customize, track, and manage the tool while also setting repeatable torque output for applications where consistency matters.
Mode 4 adds some particularly useful intelligence.
In forward, AUTO SHUT-OFF Mode limits fastening torque to approximately 75 foot-pounds, helping prevent over-tightening before a fastener receives its final torque specification.
Switch the tool into reverse and Bolt Removal Mode takes over. The impact runs at full RPM and impacts per minute while breaking the fastener free, then automatically slows to 750 RPM once the nut releases.
Instead of a fastener suddenly flying off at full speed, you’ve got significantly more control during the final part of removal.
Built for Heavy-Duty Daily Use
Milwaukee has also added several smaller details that make more sense once you’re actually using a high-torque impact all day.
There’s a variable-speed trigger for greater control, Tri-LED lighting surrounding the anvil for better visibility around the fastener, and a lanyard loop for tethering the tool when required.
A patented Battery Isolation System also helps control battery pack vibration and maintain a secure connection under heavy impact loads.

For users who need the complete setup instead of just the bare tool, Milwaukee is also offering the M18 FUEL 3/4″ High Torque Impact Wrench with ONE-KEY Kit (2964-22).
The kit shown by Milwaukee includes two M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE XC8.0 batteries, an M18 and M12 Rapid Charger, and a carrying case, making this the more complete option for someone moving into the tool rather than adding it to an established M18 setup.
With a battery installed, Milwaukee lists the tool at approximately 10.5 pounds.

The M18 FUEL 3/4″ Extended Anvil High Torque Impact Wrench with ONE-KEY (2969-20) carries over the massive output of the standard model but adds a 6-inch extended anvil designed specifically with commercial tire service in mind.
That extended reach allows technicians to get farther into recessed wheel assemblies and heavy-duty applications where the standard anvil may leave you fighting for access.
And Milwaukee hasn’t reduced the power to get there.
The 2969-20 still delivers up to:

1,800 foot-pounds of fastening torque
So the decision between these tools really isn’t about choosing the more powerful model. It’s about choosing the anvil setup that better matches the work you’re doing.
Built Around Commercial Tire Service
Where the 2969-20 really separates itself is in its application-specific features.
Milwaukee says the extended-anvil impact can service up to 10 tires on a single M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE XC8.0 battery, giving mobile technicians and commercial tire shops a much better idea of what real-world runtime could look like.

More importantly, Mode 4 features Lug Nut Snug Mode.
Instead of simply hammering the lug nut down until the operator releases the trigger, Lug Nut Snug Mode acts as a fastening assistant and automatically shuts the tool off at up to 450 foot-pounds on most heavy-duty lug nut applications.
The idea isn’t to replace a properly calibrated torque wrench for final torque. It’s to reduce the possibility of significantly over-tightening lug nuts during the initial fastening process before they’re brought to specification.
For tire service, that’s a much more application-focused approach to electronic control.

Milwaukee will also offer the extended-anvil version as the M18 FUEL 3/4″ Extended Anvil High Torque Impact Wrench with ONE-KEY Kit (2969-22).
For commercial tire shops, fleet maintenance operations and mobile tire service technicians who need the additional reach regularly, this is the model that makes the most sense.
Milwaukee 2964 vs. 2969: What’s the Difference?
The two new impacts share most of their core technology, so choosing between them comes down primarily to application.
At first glance, the 2964-20 and 2969-20 are pretty similar. Both use a 3/4-inch drive, both deliver up to 2,000 foot-pounds of nut-busting torque and 1,800 foot-pounds of fastening torque, and both include ONE-KEY and 4-Mode DRIVE CONTROL. The 2964-20 is the more all-around option, with a standard anvil, an 8.1-pound bare-tool weight, and features like AUTO SHUT-OFF and Bolt Removal Mode. It’s the one that makes the most sense for general heavy-duty fastening, whether that’s equipment repair, industrial work, automotive service, or construction.
The 2969-20 is really where Milwaukee starts tailoring the tool toward commercial tire service. It adds a 6-inch extended anvil for reaching recessed lug nuts and heavier wheel assemblies, plus Lug Nut Snug Mode, which helps keep you from over-tightening during the initial fastening process. It’s a little heavier at 9.3 pounds without a battery, but that extra reach is the reason you’d choose it. So if you want one 3/4-inch impact that can handle a wide range of jobs, go with the 2964-20. If you spend most of your time working on commercial trucks, fleets, and heavy-duty wheels, the 2969-20 is the better fit.
For general heavy-equipment, industrial, automotive, construction and maintenance work, the 2964-20 gives you the more traditional and compact setup.
If your work regularly involves commercial wheels and recessed lug nuts, the extra reach and tire-service-focused Lug Nut Snug Mode of the 2969-20 make it the better fit.
Milwaukee Protective Boots for the New 3/4-Inch Impacts
Tools like these aren’t exactly going into easy environments, so Milwaukee is also launching protective boots specifically shaped around each impact wrench.
Protective Boot for the 2964-20 (49-16-2964)
The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 3/4″ High Torque Impact Wrench Protective Boot (49-16-2964) is designed specifically for the 2964-20.
Its form-fitting rubber construction protects both the impact wrench and nearby work surfaces while adding minimal additional bulk.
Milwaukee uses a proprietary rubber material engineered to withstand corrosive substances commonly found in transportation and maintenance environments, and the flexible construction makes the boot easy to install or remove when needed.
One important detail: the 49-16-2964 is specifically intended for the 2964-20. Milwaukee warns against installing it on other tools because an improper boot can restrict airflow or otherwise damage the tool.
It’s also not intended for use on or near live electrical circuits.
Protective Boot for the 2969-20 (49-16-2969)
The extended-anvil tool gets its own boot as well.
The M18 FUEL 3/4″ Extended Anvil High Torque Impact Wrench Protective Boot (49-16-2969) is built specifically around the 2969-20.
Like the standard version, it uses a lightweight, flexible rubber construction to protect the impact and surrounding work surfaces without unnecessarily increasing the size of an already large high-torque tool.
Again, this boot is model-specific and isn’t designed for use on other Milwaukee impact wrenches.
Is Milwaukee Really Replacing the Air Impact?
That’s clearly the goal here.
Cordless high-torque impacts have already reached a point where the power numbers compete with plenty of pneumatic tools. The bigger challenge is giving professional users the speed, runtime, durability and repeatability needed to actually leave the air tool in the box.
