In today’s fast-paced and constantly evolving industrial landscape, ensuring compliance with industry standards is crucial for companies to maintain efficiency, safety, and reliability. One such standard that plays a significant role in the workplace is the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). We will explore the importance of the ANSI Z359.14-2021 compliance, discuss the need for new equipment, and highlight three reliable options: FT-X, FT-R, and Duratech.

ANSI is a non-profit organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus standards for various industries. These standards establish guidelines, specifications, and best practices to ensure product quality, workplace safety, and interoperability. Adhering to the ANSI standards not only demonstrates a company’s commitment to quality but also ensures a level playing field for manufacturers and promotes consumer confidence.

On June 17, 2021, ANSI approved the new 2021 revision of Z359.14. ANSI Z359.14-2021 expresses the safety requirements for Self-Retracting Devices (SRDs) for Personal Fall Arrest and Rescue Systems. This revision superseded the 2014 version and will be going into effect on August 1, 2023. The 2021 changes to the ANSI Z359.14 are designed to simplify types and classes of SRDs so consumers can easily identify which products are compliant with the new standard. It also increased factors of safety on multiple components and tests of the SRDs. They also introduced new testing for personal SRDs or SRL-P’s (Those worn on the back, connecting to the full body harness), including specific tests that led to previous manufacturer recalls. Finally, they aided in further standardizing labels and marking to make it clear if a product is within the ANSI Z359.14-2021 compliance.

In the 2014 revisions of Z359.14, overhead performance criteria were defined by SRD class: Class A and B. Now, with the 2021 revision overhead performance will be standardized across all SRDs. Class 1 is defined as an anchor at or above a dorsal D-ring and Class 2 is defined as an anchor above or below a dorsal D-ring.

When it comes to choosing new equipment, three reliable options stand out: FT-X, FT-R, and Duratech. Let’s briefly explore each:
