We’ve all heard it said before; “This new such-and-such battery-operated generator is here to replace your old gas guzzler!”; “Battery-operated generators are the way of the future!”; “Loud noises!” Well friends, let me introduce you to Generac’s portable battery-operated power stations; an incredible next step in portable power technology, and one you’re definitely not going to want to miss.
Generac, who we all know and love as one of the powerhouses of portable power, has introduced two battery backups for their inverter gas generators; the GB1000 and GB2000. Both come with the same 4.7” display that shows all the goings-on of the generator (battery level, power readings, et cetera), as well as a plethora of charging options. AC power, DC 12V power, USB-C, USB-A, fifteen watt wireless charging pad, optional solar charging, and it can transform into a little four-foot tall robot companion to join you on adventures and missions and stuff (okay, that one may just be wishful thinking on my part).
These power stations run parallel connections, meaning you can hook them up to your gas generator, providing up to 1600 running watts of clean, quiet, emission free output and can power up to 30 amp appliances; microwaves, coffee makers, TVs, sump pumps, you can plug a fridge into these things!
Speaking of charging, you’ll obviously have to recharge these power stations to keep them fresh. The GB1000 can go from 0 – 80% in about two hours from a standard wall socket, while the GB2000 will reach the same percentage in about three hours. Not too bad on its own, but wait, as the great Billy Mays always said, for there is in fact more; Generac has implemented technology that allows you to plug these into your standard wall outlet, plus a DC outlet, plus a solar panel, all combined to allow for even faster charging!
The solar panel is sold separately and entirely optional, but you know how it goes, it’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it; natural disasters, power outages, or multi-day travelling adventures could affect your ability to charge these power stations otherwise, but unless we time travel five billion years into the future or some eldritch space god that swallows stars appears in our solar system, you can’t turn off the sun! Even on an overcast, dreary day, photovoltaic solar panels will still catch refracted light and provide power; let those suckers live their Sheryl Crow fantasies and soak up the sun!
While gas generators may never truly disappear, a battery-operated power station is practically a must-have for travelling, camping, or even the jobsite.
